Doktorsverkefni við deild Náttúru og skógar við Landbúnaðarháskóla Íslands

Hefur þú áhuga á áhrifum beitar á norðurslóðum? Við óskum eftir doktorsnema til að taka þátt í verkefninu Grasbítar á norðlægum slóðum: tengsl fjölbreytni og starfsemi (TUNDRAsalad) sem hlaut styrk frá Rannsóknasjóði Rannís. --english below--

Markmið TUNDRAsalad er að taka saman og efla þekkingu á beitaráhrifum og fjölbreytni grasbíta í norðlægum vistkerfum. Doktorsverkefnið leggur áherslu á Ísland til að skilja áhrif mismunandi samsetningu grasbíta og bæta svæðisbundna beitarstjórnun. Doktorsverkefnið skal safna upplýsingum um útbreiðslu grasbíta á landinu og kortleggja fjölbreytni grasbíta. Auk þess verða vettvangsmælingar á virkni vistkerfa gerðar, og líkön búin til um breytingar á fjölbreytni í gegnum árin á Íslandi.

Starfstöð er á Keldnaholti í Reykjavík og leiðbeinendur verða Isabel C. Barrio (Landbúnaðarháskóli Íslands), James Speed (Norwegian University of Science and Technology í Þrándheimi) og Noémie Boulanger-Lapointe (Háskóli Íslands).

Umsóknafrestur er til og með 5. mars 2021 og er miðað við að viðkomandi hefji störf 1. apríl 2021. Verkefnistímabilið stendur út árið 2023. Reglur um doktorsnám við Landbúnaðarháskóla Íslands má finna inná hér.

Umsækjendur skulu hafa lokið meistaraprófi í vistfræði, umhverfisfræði eða á skyldum sviðum. Reynslu í vettvangsvinnu á fjarlægum svæðum og hæfni til að vinna sjálfstætt og sem hluti af teymi eru æskileg. Þekking um landupplýsingum (GIS), tölfræðilegur hugbúnaður R og ökuskírteini eru kostur.

PhD position at the Faculty of Environmental and Forest Sciences at the Agricultural University of Iceland

Are you interested in the impacts of herbivores in northern ecosystems? We are looking for a motivated PhD student to join the project “Herbivores in the tundra: linking diversity and function (TUNDRAsalad)” funded by the Icelandic Research Fund.

TUNDRAsalad will explore the role of herbivore diversity in tundra ecosystems, and how different assemblages of herbivores influence ecosystem functions in high latitude ecosystems. The PhD project will focus on Iceland, to understand the impacts of herbivore diversity and guide sustainable grazing management at a regional scale. The PhD project will involve mapping the distribution of herbivores in Iceland and conducting fieldwork to measure ecosystem function across Iceland, as well as modelling the potential impacts of changes in herbivore assemblages in Iceland over time.

The PhD student will be based at the Reykjavík campus of the Agricultural University of Iceland, and will be co-supervised by Isabel C Barrio (Agricultural University of Iceland), James Speed (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) and Noémie Boulanger-Lapointe (University of Iceland).

Applications are welcome from candidates with a MSc degree in ecology, environmental sciences or related fields. Applicants should ideally have experience in conducting fieldwork in remote areas and be able to work as part of a team and independently. Knowledge on the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), the statistical software R and a driving license are desirable skills.
