The Faculty of Environmental and Forest Sciences at the Agricultural University of Iceland seeks applicants to fill a tenure- track position as an Assistant Professor in the field of soil sciences.
The Faculty of Environmental and Forest Sciences emphasizes sustainable management of natural resources, and its role is to create a bridge between nature and society by studying, educating, training, and advising sustainable land use and ecological restoration. The focus of the position is the properties of Icelandic soils, soils in Icelandic nature and as a part of ecosystems in various conditional stages, and in relation to sustainable land use. The University has facilities designated for soil science research.
Main tasks and responsibilities
- Conduct and lead internationally recognized research in the field of soil science, environmental sciences, and related sectors
- Publish peer-reviewed articles, seek research funding and take active part in international and national collaboration
- Teach and develop courses at undergraduate and graduate level, including the mandatory basic soil science course
- Supervise students in research projects
- Participation in teaching at Land Restoration Training Programme
- Participate in the faculty’s administrative work as relevant
Education and skills
- PhD in soil science or related fields
- Experience in research and development related to soil science and environmental sciences
- Experience in teaching and interest in developing new approaches for knowledge transfer in the field
- Experience in participating in research projects and applying and securing research funds
- Track record of peer reviewed published research
- A clear vision for future research and pedagogic approach for teaching
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills
- Excellent command of English and preferably Icelandic
