Rector
The Rector is Chair of the University Council, Head of University Administration and the University's ultimate representative and advocate in relation to individuals and institutions within and outside of the University. The Rector shall preside over University operations and initiate comprehensive policy-making by the University Council on issues concerning the University. The Rector is responsible for and monitors all University operations and between University Council meetings he holds the power of decision in all University matters.
Rector's Office
The Office of the Rector is primarily devoted to implementing the role of the Rector of the University of Iceland as ordained by law, to guard the overall interests of the University, and to facilitate as possible that the overall strategy of the University, individual faculties, and institutions is put into effect successfully in order that the University can fulfil its role in teaching, research, and service to the community as well as possible.
The Office of the Rector oversees issues concerning central administration, meetings of the University Council, the University General Forum, the open annual forum, the Committee of Deans, development and advancement, quality assurance, legal issues, negotiation of agreements, and fundraising for the University as a whole. The University Archives appertain to the Office of the Rector.
