Scholarships for Doctoral Studies at the Agricultural University of Iceland

The Doctoral Fund of the Agricultural University of Iceland (AUI) announces two scholarships for doctoral studies at the university.

The purpose of the fund is to strengthen AUI as an international research university, further enhance knowledge in the university’s main academic fields, and enable promising students to pursue doctoral studies at the institution.

The scholarships are awarded to doctoral students in the form of salary payments. At any given time, the fund aims to support two doctoral students. Projects can fall within the university’s main academic fields:
i) Natural and Environmental Sciences
ii) Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences
iii) Planning Studies

 

Application Types

Applications to the fund can be submitted in two ways:

a) The student and supervisor apply together, proposing a qualified doctoral committee for the project, in accordance with AUI’s doctoral study regulations.

b) The supervisor applies for a scholarship without specifying a student but proposes a qualified doctoral committee for the project.

Application Requirements

Applications must include:

  • A project description, outlining the research, its objectives, and scientific significance.
  • A CV and publication list of the student (for option a), the supervisor, and the proposed doctoral committee.
  • A study plan for the student (for option a).
  • A brief statement on the available facilities for the project.
  • Any additional supporting documents, such as letters of recommendation.

 

Evaluation Criteria

Applications will be assessed based on the following factors:

  • Scientific value of the proposed research project.
  • Relevance to advancing knowledge in the respective field in Iceland (and AUI, if applicable).
  • Alignment with the objectives outlined in the call for applications.
  • Connection between the project and the supervisor’s academic field.
  • Academic strength of the proposed doctoral committee.
  • Student’s performance in previous university studies (for option a).
  • Quality of the study plan (for option a).
  • Availability of adequate facilities for the project.
  • Overall quality of the application submission.
