The Agricultural University of Iceland (AUI) is seeking a postdoctoral researcher for one year to join the project Restoration of birch woodlands in the 21st century, challenges, approaches, and benefits ( BirkiVist or EcoBirch)funded by the Strategic Research and Development program on Societal Challenges.
BirkiVist is a transdisciplinary collaborative project that aims to promote and support scaling-up of native woodland restoration and assess its benefits for carbon sequestration, biodiversity, landscape and aesthetics. The project is led by scientists from the AUI, Soil Conservation Service of Iceland (SCSI) and University of Iceland, but other participants come from the Iceland University for the Arts, Icelandic Forest Service, Svarmi and other agencies. The postdoctoral researcher will work closely with SCSI and AUI experts, as well as other participants in the BirkiVist project.
Responsibility

Development of statistical models for dynamics of soil carbon stocks during succession of native birch woodlands

Publications in peer-reviewed academic journals in cooperation with other participants

Participation in project meetings
-
Participation in other aspects of the BirkiVist project, according to needs and field of interest.
Capabilty
- Doctoral degree in ecology, environmental sciences or related subjects applicable to the project

Demonstrated capabilities in statistics and processing of data sets
-
Demonstrated capabilities in modelling and fluency in relevant programming

Peer-reviewed publication history
-
Experience working with remote sensing data is preferred

Background in ecology/landscape ecology is preferred

Ability to work well in a team as well as independently

Good communication skills

The postdoctoral researcher will be based at the Agricultural University of Iceland at Árleyni 22 in Reykjavík
