An external evaluation of the GRÓ LRT programme, conducted as part of a broader assessment of the GRÓ Centre and its four Iceland-based training programmes from 2018 to 2023, highlighted the impressive results of the GRÓ programmes. The evaluation confirms that GRÓ LRT has been highly effective in building capacity among young and mid-career professionals, as well as supporting collaborating organizations in its partner countries.
The Agricultural University of Iceland is the host institution for one of those schools, GRÓ Land restoration training programme or GRÓ LRT, which offers postgraduate training on ecological restoration and sustainable management of ecosystems, custom built for professionals in partner countries faced with severe land degradation.
According to the report: “The evaluation finds that the primary success of GRÓ LRT is to have developed and consistently delivered a high-quality training program on land restoration, offering a relevant and coherent package of academic and practical experiences. This constitutes a unique capacity-building opportunity, consistently appreciated by participants and partners alike.” Alumni feedback emphasizes the relevance and quality of GRÓ LRT’s training, with many alumni successfully applying their skills to advance their fields and countries. GRÓ LRT’s partner organizations also demonstrate strong ownership of these achievements.
The GRÓ LRT team is delighted with these positive evaluation results and extends heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in the programme, including former fellows, lecturers, project supervisors, and collaborating institutions.
