Assistant professor in Plant Breeding

The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences seeks an applicant for the position of an Assistant Professor in plant breeding at the Agricultural University of Iceland. The faculty's primary responsibility is to share and preserve knowledge while improving understanding in the field of land use and livestock management. Moreover, it seeks to foster innovation through research, dissemination, and education. The covered topics are diverse and span interdisciplinary aspects, encompassing biological, technical, economic, and social factors associated with agricultural production and its broader impact on the environment and society.

The role encompasses tasks related to a cereal breeding project, including the assessment of breeding value and crossing schemes for barley. The advancement of the cereal breeding project requires additional refinement, encompassing the inclusion of wheat and oats. Moreover, individuals involved must actively engage in scientific research, a crucial component for the program's success.

• Development and implementation of genetic and genomic methods for development of improved grain varieties

• Establishment of a new breeding plan for winter wheat and oats

• Publication of peer-reviewed scientific articles, acquisition of research grants, and active participation in international and domestic collaborations

• Teaching and development of courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels

• Guidance of students in research projects

• Participation in the faculty¿s administrative work as relevant

Hæfniskröfur

• PhD in plant breeding or related fields

• Experience in research and development related to cultivation of crop plants

• Experience in teaching, along with the ability and willingness for diverse knowledge dissemination in the field

• Experience in participating in research projects and applying and securing research funds.

• Clear vision for the future of research and pedagogic approach for teaching in the field

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Excellent collaboration and communication skills.

• Excellent command of English and preferably Icelandic
