Practical Information

When a student applies to the research-based M.Sc., they will be appointed a contact person from AUI’s academic staff, if theyr haven’t already found one. This person helps the student to develop a research project idea, find at least two qualified supervisors to form a M.Sc. committee, and to make suggestions on which courses should be included in the project plan. The course selection should support the research theme in a logical manner, fulfilling the general learning outcomes of AUI’s M.Sc. studies.

120 ECTS credits have to be completed for the qualification. Students have to complete their B.Sc. degree before they commence on their M.Sc. program. The M.Sc. program is individually planned, consisting of courses typically taken at educational institutions both in Iceland and in foreign countries, selected to fit the profile of a research project and written thesis. The thesis must be defended openly for the public. The research project can range from 30-60 ECTS credits and therefore the number of credits completed in courses does also vary, in the same range of credits number, to make up the sum of 120 ECTS credits. The thesis can cover a wide variety of research topics linked to the program in question.
